These are the liner notes:
On hearing the piano improvs and other more developed pieces I’d recorded in recent months, my friend, Chuck Roehm, essentially insisted that I put them together in an instrumental collection. My wife, Nancee, has been suggesting an instrumental guitar album for, well, twenty years. I’ve resisted because I like lyrics so much, and honestly (vainly) thought that such a collection would just be background dinner music. But I guess that’s fine. So, here’s a wordless collection (though several are actually songs with other instruments added in place of the lyrics, perhaps without much loss). All are piano based tunes (except Frantic Elf, which elbowed his way in) arranged with a variety of other instruments: acoustic, slide, and electric guitars, bass, synths, cittern, bodhran, and pennywhistle, while others are raw improvisations of the type I often play in the quiet of the evening before bed. For a couple of them, I went back and improvised guitar on top of the piano track. Also Dark Sea, from the Mirth and Sorrow CD, seems to fit and so is included. Thanks also to my son, Brady, whose influence and teaching of technical matters, as well as creative flair, are reflected in many of the arrangements.
